Job Opening Information Special Education Teacher - Middle School (Gr. 6-8) Job Number MSSPECED2627 Application Deadline 6/15/2026 Position Start Date 9/1/2026 Position Title Special Education Teacher - Middle School (Gr. 6-8) Required Application Type Teacher / Admin Salary/Pay Scale $49,037-TBD Job Description Albion Central School District 324 East Avenue Albion, New York 14411 Special Education Teacher Middle School Grades 6-8 Minimum Qualifications: Proven experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role Comprehensive knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities Valid New York State certificate in Special Education (covering at least grades 6-8) BS in an Education Field; MS is a plus Essential Duties: The Educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of disabilities. You will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote the growth of our students which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being. Responsibilities: Assess childrens' skills and learning requirements Assess students' abilities and craft teaching plans Adapt learning materials to meet students' needs Design Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) Communicate the established objectives and expectations to students, parents and classroom teachers regarding IEP goals and curriculum standards Collaborate with parents and school staff to track students' progress Inform parents about their children's performance and potential problems Keep track of and reflect on students' progress Monitor children's behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions as needed Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict Prepare students for transition to the next grade Coach/mentor other professionals who work with children with disabilities Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors and speech therapists) to create holistic intervention plans Assist the administration in implementing all District policies and/or building regulations and procedures governing student life and conduct Attend scheduled meetings; serve on District and building committees Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, by District policy, regulations and building procedures Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars and conferences Perform other duties as required by Building Principal and /or District Administration Desired Qualities: Focus on students and their individual needs Act with kindness and compassion Demonstrate integrity Commit to continuous growth and improvement Collaborate with all stakeholders Requirements : NYS Certification in Special Education (covering at least grades 6-8) Fingerprint clearance through NYSED TEACH; drug testing; current TB test; current physical (less than one year old) - all completed upon being hired for employment Terms of Employment : Ten-month year; salary to be established by the Board of Education; follows the ATA contract step schedule - (Step 1 - $49,037 - $55,000).
