Special Education Teacher - Kennebunk High School Pay Range $57,392 - $109,152 As per KAKEA CBA Appendix I salary scale (2026-2027) The Position The mission of Kennebunk High School is to develop productive global citizens, and we work collectively to live that mission every day in everything we do. We seek a dedicated, student-centered, and empathetic Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will support students in achieving meaningful outcomes by designing, providing, and coordinating appropriate educational services for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Effective communication skills are required to supervise Education Technicians, collaborate with related service providers, coordinate with general education staff, and partner with families. Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Services Qualifications Proven professional with enthusiasm, passion, and successful experience working with school-aged children Strong background in high school subject areas, especially math and literacy Experience with high school scheduling and vocational programs preferred Maine DOE Certification Endorsement 282: Teacher of Children with Disabilities required Maine Department of Education Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) required Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities preferred Responsibilities Provide direct instruction through planning and delivering high-quality, differentiated instruction Coordinate and supervise Education Technicians Analyze assessment and performance data to design appropriate instruction Maintain special education documentation in compliance with Maine regulations Maintain knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations Attend special education meetings and stay current with best practices and compliance requirements Communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers, and related service providers Maintain accurate records for annual reviews and triennial evaluations Provide regular progress reports to parents at least quarterly or as needed Provide consultation and support to families Collaborate with outside agencies regarding student and family needs Monitor and analyze student progress and adjust programming as needed Maintain strong organizational systems for student services and documentation Demonstrate leadership in transition services Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services Key Competencies Resourceful: Uses available tools and networks to support student success Goal-Based: Sets ambitious goals and tracks student progress Analytical Thinking: Uses data to inform instructional decisions Outcomes-Focused: Prioritizes measurable student growth Motivator: Encourages students, staff, and families toward success Team Player: Collaborates effectively with colleagues Effective Communicator: Communicates clearly and professionally Relationship-Oriented: Builds trust with students, families, and staff Reasonable Accommodations RSU 21 provides reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or applicable law, unless doing so would create an undue hardship.
