The Office of Juvenile Justice is looking for a dedicated and adaptable Substitute Teacher who is passionate about helping young people stay engaged and successful in the classroom.   • High school diploma or equivalent.

The Substitute Teacher provides instructional support by delivering prepared lessons, supervising students, and maintaining a safe, structured classroom environment for youth in secure care. The incumbent ensures continuity of instruction, models professionalism, and supports student learning through clear communication, positive reinforcement, and adherence to all OJJ and Department of Education policies. The position requires reliability, strong classroom presence, and the ability to work effectively with students and staff.

Job Duties:

  • Teach state-mandated curriculum, basic job skills, and employability skills to youth in secure care.

  • Maintain a positive, organized classroom environment and follow prepared lesson plans.

  • Communicate effectively with staff and students; submit attendance, grades, and required reports on time.

  • Participate in professional development and stay informed on instructional practices.

  • Use varied teaching strategies to meet different learning needs and styles.

  • Follow all OJJ/DOE policies and perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.

Position-Specific Details:

Work Location: This vacancy is located at Columbia Center for Youth in Columbia, LA.

Appointment Type : Part Time, WAE

Work Schedule : 3 days a week. 7.5 hour shifts

Compensation : $16.00 hourly

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)
