Job Title: K-12 Instrumental Music/Band

**To serve as K-6 Music & 7-12 Choir Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

**It is the intent of the district to fill this position as soon as possible. Applications are requested to be submitted as soon as possible.

Teaching Position: This position is responsible for K-6 Music and 7-12 Choir. The The supplemental position as Choir also is part of this position. The Music/Choir teacher may be asked to direct the National Anthem at home events as well as help support district music concerts. The supplemental for this position also requires participating in league and state choir events.

Student Contact Days: 159 {School Day: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

Teacher Contract Days: 175 {Duty Day: 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.)

Location

Mission Valley is in the beautiful Flint Hills and is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Topeka, 35 miles north of Emporia, and 45 miles southeast of Manhattan. The USD 330 school district is comprised of the rural communities of Dover, Eskridge, and Harveyville.

JOB DESCRIPTION: To create a flexible elementary program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education, in accordance with each pupil`s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

1. Teaches district approved curriculum.
2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and subject matter specified in state law and district procedures.
3. Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
4. Uses developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
5. Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
6. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
7. Evaluates pupils academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
8. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
9. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
10. Plans and coordinates the work of aides and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
11. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
12. Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of student`s work.
13. Maintains confidentiality of information about students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students and volunteers.

Qualification Requirements: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in Music Education.

CERTIFICATES. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Kansas Teaching Certificate in area of subject matter.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals and professional journals, lesson plans and district procedures. Ability to write reports, correspondence and lessons plans. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITIY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Mission Valley USD 330 is located approx. 30-50 minutes from Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Emporia. We are a 2A district with our Elementary/Junior High and High School both centrally located at the same site between the towns of Eskridge, Dover, and Harveyville.
