The Elementary, Junior High and High School Band Director is responsible for planning, developing, and directing instrumental music programs for students in grades 5-12. The director will foster student growth in musical skill, performance, teamwork, discipline, and appreciation for music while supporting the overall educational mission of the school district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum aligned with state and district standards.
- Direct junior high and high school concert bands, pep band, marching band, and other instrumental ensembles as assigned.
- Teach beginning band skills to fifth and sixth grade students through daily 30-minute instructional classes.
- Organize and conduct an annual instrument display and selection event to assist beginning students and families in choosing appropriate instruments.
- Introduce elementary students to proper instrumental techniques, music fundamentals, and performance expectations.
- Plan and conduct rehearsals, performances, concerts, contests, and community events.
- Evaluate student progress and provide regular feedback on musical growth and performance.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and inventory of instruments and equipment.
- Promote positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Coordinate fundraising activities and manage the band budget as assigned.
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and storage of instruments, uniforms, and music equipment.
- Collaborate with administration and faculty to support student success and school activities.
- Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and travel events.
- Maintain compliance with district policies, Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) guidelines, and state regulations.

As of November 2020, Cimarron Junior High and Senior High School served approximately 300 students in grades 7-12 and the Elementary School served approximately 400 in grades PreK-6. USD 102 has teachers as well as a full support of classified staff.
Cimarron has a strong tradition of high academic standards and outstanding athletic programs, which include football, volleyball, cross country, wrestling, basketball, golf, tennis, baseball, softball, and track. USD 102 is fortunate to enjoy support from the community in all efforts to make positive differences in students lives.
Our 7th-12th grade students are participating in the 1-to-1 Learning Initiative. All of our 9th-12th grade students receive a Macintosh laptop computer to assist them in their learning. We have 1-1 iPad initiatives for 7th-8th grade students. Ipad and Chromebook carts are in the K-6th grade building.
In 2013, the patrons of USD 102 passed a $5.3 million addition to the grade school building. The bond passed 85% to 15%. This is one indication of the overwhelming support for education enjoyed by all employees of USD 102.
USD 102 is a member of the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center (SWPRSC) and the Southwest Kansas Area Cooperative District #613 (SKACD #613). Teachers receive professional development through SWPRSC while special education students are served via the SKACD organization.
