Mount View High School in Thorndike, Maine, is seeking a passionate English Language Arts teacher to join our innovative and collaborative team for the 26-27 school year. This is a full-time certified position with the opportunity to shape core and elective curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver daily English Language Arts (ELA) lessons aligned with state standards and school curriculum
- Teach literary analysis, writing (narrative, expository, persuasive, and research), grammar, and vocabulary
- Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that supports all learners
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including MLLs and students with IEPs or 504 Plans
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work and maintain accurate grade records
- Incorporate technology, multimedia, and a variety of texts (classic and contemporary) to enhance instruction
- Support literacy across the curriculum through reading and writing strategies
- Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities and curriculum development
- Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and school staff
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and school-wide events
- Maintain professional and ethical standards in accordance with school policies and state requirements
What We're Looking For:
- Must have a current Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
- Must be Certified 100S - English 7-12 or have the ability to become certified
- Strong classroom presence and inclusive teaching philosophy
- Interest in social justice, history, or interdisciplinary connections a plus
- Ability to maintain strong classroom management to support student success
- Special consideration will be given to those applicants qualified to teach AP and dual enrollment courses.
