USD 210 Hugoton Public Schools is seeking a qualified district-wide band director/instructor for grades 512 . The band director will oversee and manage the instrumental music program across the district, providing students with opportunities to participate in both curricular and extracurricular band activities while ensuring compliance with all district, league, and state requirements.
Position Summary
The band director will plan, organize, and direct all instrumental music activities for grades 512. The successful candidate will promote student growth in music education while building a strong band program that participates in league, regional, and state events.
Major Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise all levels of school band performances, including marching band, concert band, and small ensembles .
- Establish performance expectations, enforce academic eligibility requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band activities.
- Provide opportunities for band participation in curricular and extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, basketball games, and playoff events when invited.
- Coordinate and arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town band performances and competitions.
- Manage the band program budget responsibly.
- Coordinate and oversee fundraising activities while ensuring compliance with district and board policies.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all band equipment and fixed assets within the department.
- Plan and implement instructional strategies, lesson plans, and learning activities that meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
- Assess student progress through formal and informal evaluations and maintain weekly grade reporting .
- Promote and grow the band program through active recruitment of current and future students across USD 210 campuses .
- Enforce school policies and student discipline in accordance with each campus's student handbook.
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, principals, the activities director, and other faculty members .
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at assigned work locations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Kansas Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
