USD #226 is a 1A/2A - PS-12 school district located in Meade, Kansas which is close to Dodge City and Liberal. It has a very strong school system with tremendous community support. The district is composed of a PS-8th building that has 270 students, a 9-12 building that has 105 students, and a Learning Center with close to 20 students. The community centers around the school and community activities like 4-H, Recreation Programs, Church Activities, and other community events. Meade is the county seat and has several large thriving businesses in this rural farming community. The town has a new hospital and a modern nursing home. The school has been very successful in academics, athletics, as well as fine arts. About 15 years ago Meade entirely remodeled the PS-8th building and in recent years upgraded the HVAC system at the high school.

In the last decade Meade has been very successful in athletics. The high school was back to back 1A State Cross Country Champions in both 2020 and 2021. This year Meade won the 1A Div. I State Football Championship. The district also won the 2A State Football Championship in 2010 and 2012 and the boys` basketball team was state runner-up in 2012 and 2013. Over a seven year period the Meade high school girls` basketball team went to state and placed 4th in 2014 and 3rd in 2015 and 2017. The girls also qualified for state volleyball in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2018. In 2014 and 2017 the girls` track team took 3rd at state. The boys` track team was the state runner-up in 2012 and 2013. Meade has had many students go to state tennis, golf, cross country, and track. Meade consistently has a large number of students attend state music and state speech. In 2021 the high school forensics team took 5th place in the state competition. The number of students participating in fine arts will often approach 2/3rds of the student body. Whether away or at home, Meade usually has the largest crowd to support our students.
