Agriculture Teacher Jobs in California

An Agriculture Teacher in secondary education is responsible for teaching students about agriculture, food and natural resources. They develop lesson plans that cover a wide range of topics such as animal science, environmental science, plant science and agricultural business management. They engage students in hands-on experiments, fieldwork, and projects to provide practical experience. They also guide students in Future Farmers of America (FFA) activities, supervise student research projects, and often coach student teams for FFA competitions. Agriculture teachers also advise students on college and career readiness.

To become an Agriculture Teacher, individuals typically need a bachelor's degree in agricultural education or a related field. They should have strong knowledge of agronomy, animal science, and agricultural business. Certifications to teach agriculture and related subjects at the secondary level are required in most states. Important skills include excellent teaching skills, the ability to engage students using different teaching styles, strong communication skills, and patience. They also need to be organized and have good time management skills. Prior job roles that could lead to this position include being an Agricultural Scientist, Farm Manager, or a Secondary School Teacher in a different subject.
