Position: Career Training Instructor

The career training instructor position at WTAE - CT focuses primarily on content instruction and skills development. This is achieved by utilizing instructor resources such as lesson plans, powerpoints, competency checkoffs, and course textbooks. Instructors should familiarize themselves with WTAE program requirements to be able to ensure student success and monitor the weekly program newsletters to keep updated on program information. Instructors should also assist with placement (job shadowing) for the students in their program. This position is budgeted for 8 - 13.5 hours/week from Week #0 - Week #15 and reports directly to the Coordinator of Career Training.

Qualifications: This position requires a teacher license or an industry certification and 4 years of experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Interactions :

  • Lead student orientation sessions
  • Attends graduation.
  • Responds to program specific email requests by the next professional work day.
  • Stays informed about the Weekly - CT Weekly Updates to be knowledgeable about program procedures and events.
  • Prepares lessons and materials in advance of instruction.
  • Facilitates connections to our Partnership Coach for Hiring Fair events and other opportunities as leaders in the field.
  • Completes Professional Development training through July & January sessions and WTAE Vector Safe School training.
  • Submits a yearly supply order for 2 semester’s requests through the supply ordering system by date assigned by CT Coordinator and Fiscal Team (spring completion for next program year) and updates CT Coordinator or designee about any additional needs.
  • Accurately clocks in and out at the computer or front desk.
  • Arranges and plans for a sub for their class in the event of an absence, completing the sub form to notify Fiscal Team.
  • Verifies student attendance of makeup hours with CT A31 Receptionist.
  • Meets with students who have attendance, grade, or other barrier challenges, referring to Career Coach or CT Coordinator for follow up assistance.
  • Maintains digital student folders. The folders MUST contain the student’s Adult Learning Plan and any additional records.
  • Keeps accurate records of student gradebook, attendance, ALPs, skills checklists, evaluations, etc.
  • Utilizes prep time for course preparation, lab setup, grading, planning, student communications, etc.
  • Teaches with integrity and veracity.
  • Responsibly maintains classroom space in a shared environment with daytime program, being mindful of cleanliness and organization.
  • Leads students through weekly schedules.
  • Meets program deadlines.
  • Submits ALPs (Week #6 and Week #12)
  • Executes course specific midterm (Week #6)
  • Submits classroom inventory (Week #11)
  • Submits remediation plan to CT Coordinator for students who don’t pass certification exams (as needed)
  • Submits Intent to Return Form (Week #11)
  • Executes remediation plan (if needed) and emails student attendance to CT email.
  • Wears ID Badge at all times on campus.
  • Dresses appropriately in business casual attire, scrubs (healthcare), or industry appropriate attire (trades) while on the campus.
  • Models appropriate professional conduct for students.
  • Enforces school/district policies (cell phone use, not leaving the building during breaks, etc).
  • Maintains a positive, respectful learning environment.
  • Communicates classroom and program expectations to students.
  • Provides remediation for struggling students.
