DESCRIPTION
Madison District Public Schools is seeking a full-time Secondary Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for science education and inspire students to explore, question, and understand the world around them. The successful candidate will be committed to fostering scientific inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on learning experiences while building positive relationships with students and supporting diverse learning needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate Science endorsement (DX, DI, DA, DC, DE, or other applicable secondary science endorsement)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan Science Standards (MSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) practices
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices and curriculum development
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
- Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills
- Competency in student management and supervision
- Ability to maintain a safe and effective laboratory learning environment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and state standards.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, laboratory experiences, and inquiry-based learning opportunities to support student achievement.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and families regarding academic progress.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, attendance, and communication.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that promotes curiosity, collaboration, and scientific thinking.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety of laboratory equipment, materials, and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success and achievement.
- Participate in professional learning opportunities and district initiatives to improve instructional practices.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
