The person in this position is under the general supervision of the building principal and is responsible for teaching middle school level English/Language Arts courses aligned with Oregon Middle School and Common Core State Standards. This individual must work cooperatively with other members of the staff as a member of the LA Professional Learning Community, to provide students with a well-planned and organized instructional program utilizing effective school practices.
Qualifications Required
- Current Oregon Teaching License with appropriate English/Language Arts endorsement meeting Highly Qualified Teacher standards;
- Demonstrated positive classroom management skills;
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in instruction / learning methods and techniques;
- Demonstrated understanding and judgment regarding student safety;
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, administrators, students, parents, and patrons;
- Ability to meet the Junction City School District Standards of Competent Teacher Performance and the Oregon Standards for Professional Educators;
- Ability to know, understand, and adhere to school rules and District policies.
Qualifications Desired
- Ability to positively engage middle school students in Language Arts instruction, including reading & writing;
- Successful E/LA teaching experience in grades 6-8;
- Knowledge and experience with proficiency-based teaching and learning, and standards-based grading;
- Ability to evaluate the educational strengths and needs of students;
- Ability to convey to parents and teachers the students’ learning abilities and needs;
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current first aid/CPR card;
- Willingness to immerse in the culture and traditions of Oaklea MS and willingness to coach and/or advise clubs;
- Ability to plan and implement a demonstration lesson with OMS students and/ or submit video of your teaching in another setting.
