This role at Health Sciences Charter School requires expert knowledge of operating in various instructional settings, including Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), Resource Rooms, or Self-Contained Special Classes. The special education teacher collaborates with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators and families. Duties/ Responsibilities: IEP Development & Compliance Draft and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Progress monitors students' skill development and needs. Present student progress data at Committee on Special Education (CSE) annual review meetings. Adheres to mandated testing accommodations, testing modifications, and testing formats for NYS Regents exams. Instructional Delivery & Curriculum Modification Create an educational environment that encourages deep learning and understanding from a science of learning foundation and explicit direct instruction Deliver instruction that is accessible, invites and facilitates active participation through accommodations and modifications to curriculum. Adapt and modify secondary general education curricula (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) without compromising academic rigor. Active Co-teaching alongside general education content specialists to provide seamless, inclusive support in an ICT framework. Collaborate with team on curriculum and students needs Behavioral Support/Classroom Management/Family Support Create, implement and manage a responsive learning environment that supports safety, creativity and active exploration of learning and expressing ideas that promote conflict resolution and cohesion. Create and work toward ongoing communication with parents. Qualifications Education & Certification: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education Certification: Valid state teaching credential with an endorsement or certification as a Special Education Teacher. Experience: Minimum of [2-5] years of successful classroom teaching experience, with a proven track record of improving student learning outcomes. Technical Skills Data & Assessment Systems: Experienced with student information systems (SIS) and data analytics platforms (e.g., mCLASS, Renaissance Star, NWEA MAP, PowerSchool) for tracking benchmarks and growth. Learning Management Systems (LMS): Skilled in navigating and managing instructional workflows via Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology. Collaboration & Reporting Tools: Proficient in productivity suites (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) for generating compliance reports, tracking data trends. Skills and Competencies: Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards. Skill in using data to inform instructional decisions and program improvements. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
