ENL Teacher - Grades 7-12 Reports to - Principal/Designee Position Summary: The Grades 7-12 ELL/ESOL Teacher designs and delivers specialized English language instruction to Multilingual Learners (MLs) and English Language Learners (ELLs) from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The teacher provides targeted language support across four domains: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. At Health Sciences Charter School, this teacher ensures students access rigorous secondary curricula, successfully navigate NYS Regents exams, and meet graduation requirements while honoring their native languages and cultures. Duties/ Responsibilities: Compliance, Screening, & Assessment Administer and score the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL) to screen incoming students.Coordinate and proctor the annual New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) to measure annual language growth. Maintain accurate compliance records under NYS Part 154 mandates, including student tracking, progress monitoring, and testing accommodations. Instructional Delivery & Content Integration Deliver research-based instruction targeting academic language, vocabulary acquisition, and literacy development in secondary disciplines (Math, Science, Social Studies, English). Co-teach alongside general education content teachers in an Integrated ENL model to scaffold lessons and make complex texts accessible. Provide Standalone ENL instruction to Newcomers or Students with Interrupted/Inconsistent Formal Education (SIFE) to build foundational literacy. Curriculum Differentiation & Scaffolding Adapt and differentiate secondary learning materials using visual aids, graphic organizers, native language supports, and technology. Incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy into daily lessons to validate student backgrounds and build on their prior knowledge. Prepare students for the linguistic demands of NYS Regents Exams utilizing Explicit Direct Instruction Advocacy & Family Engagement Facilitate communication between the school and non-English speaking families, ensuring access to translated report cards, meetings, and resources. Serve as a resource for general education faculty, offering professional insights on language acquisition stages and instructional modifications. Education & Certification Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education Certification: Valid state teaching credential with an endorsement or certification as a Special Education Teacher. Experience: Minimum of [2-5] years of successful classroom teaching experience, with a proven track record of improving student learning outcomes. Technical Skills Data & Assessment Systems: Experienced with student information systems (SIS) and data analytics platforms (e.g., mCLASS, Renaissance Star, NWEA MAP, PowerSchool) for tracking benchmarks and growth. Learning Management Systems (LMS): Skilled in navigating and managing instructional workflows via Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology. Collaboration & Reporting Tools: Proficient in productivity suites (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) for generating compliance reports, tracking data trends. Skills and Competencies Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
