JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Alabama professional educator certificate endorsed in Special Education
REPORTS TO: Local school principal
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare student education plans in consultation with parents and IEP team members
- Design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum
- Monitor student progress, participates in review and revision of IEP as appropriate
- Assist other professional staff in the development of planned remediation and evaluation of student progress
- Maintain appropriate student data and other records and submit reports as required
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Expected work day: 8 hours
- In order to maximize student achievement, teachers, should be able to assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcomes
- Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with local and state study and curriculum guides
- Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serve the needs and capabilities of the students

EVALUATION:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 187 days - Salary according to appropriate current schedule
