JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Special Education Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Alabama professional educator certificate endorsed in Special Education

REPORTS TO: Local school principal

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare student education plans in consultation with parents and IEP team members
  • Design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum
  • Monitor student progress, participates in review and revision of IEP as appropriate
  • Assist other professional staff in the development of planned remediation and evaluation of student progress
  • Maintain appropriate student data and other records and submit reports as required

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Expected work day: 8 hours
  • In order to maximize student achievement, teachers, should be able to assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcomes
  • Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with local and state study and curriculum guides
  • Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serve the needs and capabilities of the students

EVALUATION:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 187 days - Salary according to appropriate current schedule
