POSITION: Agriscience Long Term Substitute

LOCATION: Nonnewaug High School

START DATE: Approximately 6/15/2026 through 1/5/2027

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Nonnewaug High School agriscience teacher works to implement the comprehensive 3 circle model of agriscience education across classes. Nonnewaug High School agriscience teachers are leaders in their field and specialize in meeting students' needs in and across a variety of State and National Standards. NHS agriscience teachers work with their instructional leader to continually develop cutting edge curricula and lessons that meet the needs of all students. A deep understanding of tier one intervention instruction is needed. Nonnewaug High School agriscience teachers strive for excellence and challenge students with a rigorous approach while co-planning with departments across the school.

The candidate must demonstrate:

• Instruct in accordance with the Region 14 teacher job description
• Develop and deliver a comprehensive agriscience curriculum (to include veterinary science 10, veterinary science 11/12, amongst other things)
• Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting
• Confer with families and professionals in the school and community for the best interests of the students
• Plan, evaluate, and revise the agriscience courses and programs
• Perform additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification (to include potential SAE visits)
• Collaborate with teaching colleagues on subject area teams
• Demonstrate willingness to seek and act on feedback from other instructional leaders, colleagues, and administrators
• Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents, guardians, and families
• Evaluate student needs based on data and employ a variety of instructional strategies to meet these needs
• Collaborate with support staff and interventionists to develop and evaluate progress towards meeting measurable goals and objectives
• Participate in professional learning opportunities provided by the district and incorporate new learning into instructional practices
• Maintain PowerSchool gradebook that reflects the intended curriculum and recognizes our Vision of a Learner attributes
• Understands the importance of data driven decision making and the impact it has on teaching and learning

QUALIFICATIONS: State of Connecticut Vocational Agriculture (040/041) Highly Recommended
