SUMMARY:

The Quincy School District seeks a dynamic string and general music instructor to fill out our secondary music team, providing students with quality music learning and performing experiences. Assigned classes may include string orchestra, guitar, piano, and/or general music depending on student interest and the candidates strengths and background. A music teacher fosters and enhances an effective learning environment; establishes effective rapport with students to motivate and develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for music appreciation and performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establishes classroom goals and objectives, in alignment with courses of study specified by State and School District statutes, regulations and guidelines; evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays
  • Directs student teachers, teacher aides, tutors, and volunteers when such personnel are utilized.
  • Attends or participates in all required staff meetings, committees, team building, field trips and other activities (may include overnight stay) deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional achievement.
  • Participates in a variety of activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
  • Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
  • Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to keep confidentiality and show initiative when appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently have or will have by the start date a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a music related endorsement required. Other degrees and certifications may be considered.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to teach beginning orchestra instruments and guitar preferred.
  • Ability to teach beginning piano/keyboarding skills preferred.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate student music performances for parents and community.
  • Knowledge of subject areas appropriate to assignment; effective behavior management techniques; effective instructional techniques; rules and procedures for student safety.
  • Skill in proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications; effective communication with parents or guardians in a diverse community; designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement.
  • Ability to deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities; manage student behavior; use

good judgment to maintain a safe learning environment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques.

  • Use necessary musical instruments, equipment, computers, or software.
  • Establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators.
  • Sets and maintains high expectations of students and personal productivity and performance.
  • Ability to gain respect and confidence of students and community through the modeling of appropriate behavior, methods and attire.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
