Description:
In the absence of the classroom teacher, the substitute teacher or aide provides instruction, encourages student progress, and manages the learning environment, providing a well-organized, smooth functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials
Qualifications:
Education/Certification : High School diploma or GED
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (preferred), Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to instruct and communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively. Ability to successfully interact with students, professional employees, parents, and district patrons. Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate
Substitute teachers must be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities in order to effectively supervise and support students in the classroom environment:
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time while actively monitoring and engaging with students throughout the classroom and campus.
- Navigate school campuses, including climbing stairs when necessary.
- Follow daily schedules, campus procedures, and assigned duties as directed by campus administration.
- Accurately maintain and update attendance records and classroom documentation.
- Implement teacher lesson plans and instructional activities in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
- Establish and maintain appropriate classroom management and student behavior expectations.
- Follow all district safety procedures, emergency protocols, and crisis response guidelines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information, including but not limited to IEPs, 504 accommodations, medical information, behavioral plans, and other protected student records.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
- Adapt to various grade levels, classroom environments, and instructional settings as needed.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other assigned areas to ensure student safety and well-being.
- Use basic technology and classroom systems necessary for instruction, attendance, and communication.
Salary:
- Non-Degreed/Uncertified $95 a day
- Four-Year Degree $105 a day
- Certified Teachers $125 a day

- If accepted into the SISD substitute pool, you will have reasonable assurance for continued substitute employment after school-year breaks and summer break. Annual training is required at the beginning of each school year.
