Long-Term Substitute Teacher

Reporting to the Upper School Director, the Upper School Honors and AP Chemistry long-term substitute Teacher is a faculty member who works to provide a rigorous science curriculum. This teacher works closely with all science department members to improve student learning and create meaningful instruction. This teacher also manages a small advisory group of students and works closely with the other advisors of that grade level to support those students and to implement our activities around character education and social-emotional learning. This sub assignment is scheduled for August 12th-
November 5th.
Responsibilities:
Develop lesson plans that deliver a rigorous curriculum in an interactive learning environment
Employ classroom management strategies that promote academic achievement and student engagement
Monitor student progress and assist students in accomplishing learning objectives
Design and implement rubrics when grading tests and projects
Provide timely feedback to students and their parents on coursework and progress
Be enthusiastic about pedagogy, particularly inquiry-based approaches and differentiated implementation that is best suited to a variety of learners.
Share interests and areas of expertise in science with students in the classroom
Integrate technology appropriate to the course level
Collaborate effectively with science department colleagues
Ensure students understand and follow all safety rules for laboratory experiments and are aware of the proper actions to take during accidents and emergencies.
Maintain course inventory and submit orders for equipment and laboratory supplies.
Implement lessons that encourage students to develop creative problem-solving skills and become leaders of character
Seek professional development opportunities with other teachers to focus on improving student achievement and continued growth as an educator
Mentor a small advisory group of students and implement advisement programming
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; Master's preferred
7-12 Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry or related field Licensure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, TI-84 graphing calculators
