Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate in-person and distance or virtual instruction designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning
Strong knowledge of Internet and web-related technology
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to support students with computer set-up, navigation, and technology issues
Experience:
Student teaching or approved internship, or related work experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles in students
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
- Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s)
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
- Provide timely feedback to students and track progress through a variety of methods.
- Conduct ongoing assessment and feedback related to student achievement through formal and informal methods.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the school
- Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the school district
- Create an in-person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
- Effectively communicate to present information accurately and clearly to students and parents on a regular basis in person, via phone, video conference, email, or district-approved website.

Department Chair-Addendum / Stipend Agreement
Purpose: In addition to fulfilling the obligations of a teaching position, the department chair provides management and instructional leadership to the department while serving as a communication liaison between faculty and administration.
Terms of Employment: This is not a job assignment. Rather, this is a stipend agreement. This agreement can be terminated by the campus principal at any time with the approval of the Executive Director of Leadership. This stipend agreement reflects an amount determined by the ECISD compensation plan plus 10 additional working days at the principals' discretion to help with the planning and organization of campus operations. In addition, this stipend agreement also reflects a minimum of 30 additional minutes each work day. Department Chairs may be asked to provide professional development or attend professional development for the expressed purpose of executing the major responsibilities of this stipend agreement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university- required
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate - required
- Master's degree in area of concentration -
- Three or more years of recent successful classroom experience - preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in content, curriculum, student learning, test analysis, mentoring and professional development
- Highly effective interpersonal and group communication skills
- Strong knowledge base of best practices in instruction
- Strong work ethic, self-directed and self-motivated
- Excellent communication and organization skills

Major Responsibilities: The following is a guide to the scope of the role of a Department Chair. It is not a complete list of all duties and may vary when necessary to match the skill set of the position holder and/or the needs of the Campus/District.
- Facilitates the successful management of the department.
- Works cooperatively with other teachers in the department and campus administration to develop, maintain, implement, and assess the District/Campus goals and plans.
- Selects, uses, and interprets multiple forms of data to enhance the school's continuous improvement efforts.
- Monitors and assists with the work of content area Professional Learning Communities in standards-based assessments, data analysis, and progress toward individual student achievement.
- Monitors to ensure that the curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments align to the District/State curriculum.
- Serves as a communication liaison between faculty and administration. The department chair openly participates in dialogue with members of the department, other department chairs, and administrators to ensure that the goals and direction of the school are clearly stated and aligned with the mission of the school.
- Is available to parents, students, administration, and colleagues outside the school day when needed.
- Assists in hiring, training, evaluating, and supporting the faculty members in their respective departments.
- Submits any department budget requests. Facilitates the department discussions regarding the allocation of resources when assigned to the department.
- Assist with the completion of all surveys, forms, paperwork and state reports that are required of his/her department.
- Assists short-term substitute teachers in carrying out their assigned duties and communicate any concerns to administration. Ensures all classrooms within the department are supervised when substitutes are not available.
- Serves as an advocate for one's own department while supporting the wider mission of the school. The department chair supports a culture of healthy and open discussion about school issues, and actively supports the school's decisions.
- Serves as a consultant to teachers within his/her department and principals district wide.
- Provides leadership to department committees for new text adoptions, and recommends supplementary materials for his/her department.
- Inventories textbooks and equipment as needed by the administration.
- Is knowledgeable in new trends and developments within his/her departmental content area, and recommends pilot or experimental programs for consideration.
- In conjunction with the administrative team, plan, lead and support professional development opportunities dictated by the needs of the staff
- Assists teachers in methodology, techniques, materials, or any other function needed to enhance the teacher's ability to be successful.
- Assists with the creation of the master schedule.
- Attends department chairperson meetings called by the high school administration or Central Office administration-including monthly coaching trainings.
- Works with all principals and counselors to ensure the department runs smoothly.
- Assists with campus initiatives as assigned by the principal.
- Other tasks deemed appropriate or necessary by the immediate supervisor(s) or Superintendent
