Job Description

Agriculture Education Teacher / FFA Advisor

Overview:

Danville Community School District is seeking a motivated and skilled Agriculture Teacher. The Agriculture Education Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive agricultural education program that integrates classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experiences (SAE), and leadership development through FFA. This position plays a vital role in preparing students for careers and postsecondary opportunities in agriculture, while building strong connections with the local community and industry partners.

Qualifications:

Valid Iowa Teaching License required

Strong knowledge of agriculture education and hands-on teaching methods.

Experience working with tools, machinery, and safety procedures.

Ability to build positive relationships with students and motivate them to succeed.

Ability to manage and supervise student activities beyond the regular school day

Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.

Relevant experiences - preferred but not required

Background in agriculture or related fields - preferred but not required

Interest in developing or expanding a school's Agriculture and CTE programs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum

Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned curriculum in agricultural education courses (e.g., animal science, plant science, ag business, ag mechanics, natural resources, etc.)

Incorporate hands-on, project-based learning experiences that reflect real-world agricultural practices

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners

Utilize ongoing assessment practices to monitor student growth and adjust instruction accordingly

Maintain a safe, organized, and effective learning environment, including shop/lab spaces if applicable

Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)

Guide students in the development and implementation of individualized SAE programs

Conduct regular SAE visits and maintain accurate records

Support students in connecting classroom learning to real-world agricultural experiences

FFA Leadership & Activities

Serve as the advisor for the local FFA chapter

Organize and supervise FFA meetings, activities, competitions, and conferences

Prepare students for Career and Leadership Development Events (CDEs/LDEs)

Promote student leadership, citizenship, and personal growth through FFA involvement

Manage chapter operations including budgets, fundraising, officer training, and program of activities (POA)

Ensure compliance with state and national FFA guidelines and deadlines

Supervise students at events, competitions, and conferences, including travel as required

Support equitable access to FFA opportunities for all students

Program Development & Community Engagement

Build and maintain partnerships with local farmers, businesses, and agricultural organizations

Promote the agriculture program and FFA chapter within the school and community

Assist in recruiting and retaining students in the agriculture program

Participate in advisory committees and program improvement efforts

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

Collaborate with colleagues to support school-wide initiatives and student success

Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and ongoing professional development

Maintain accurate student records, grades, and program documentation

Ensure compliance with district policies, state standards, and safety regulations

Laboratory, Shop, and Facility Management

Maintain agricultural labs, greenhouse spaces, land labs, and/or mechanics shops in a safe, clean, and organized condition

Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inventory of tools, equipment, and materials

Teach and enforce safety procedures aligned with industry standards

Coordinate repairs, upgrades, and long-term planning for program facilities and equipment

Program Management & Compliance

Develop and maintain a comprehensive agricultural education program aligned to state standards and the three-component model (classroom, SAE, FFA)

Maintain accurate records for program reporting, including enrollment, SAE participation, and FFA activities

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to agricultural education, safety, and student supervision

Assist in budgeting, purchasing, and managing program funds and grants

Student Career & Postsecondary Readiness

Provide guidance to students regarding agricultural careers, certifications, and postsecondary pathways

Assist students in developing employability skills such as communication, problem-solving, and technical competencies

Support students in earning industry-recognized credentials where applicable

Connect students with internships, job shadowing, and workplace learning experiences

Work-Based Learning Coordination

Develop partnerships with local employers to expand student access to work-based learning opportunities

Coordinate and monitor internships, apprenticeships, and other workplace experiences

Collaborate with district staff to ensure proper documentation and alignment with graduation requirements

Evaluate student performance in workplace settings in collaboration with employers

Data Use & Continuous Improvement

Analyze student performance data to improve instruction and program outcomes

Set program goals aligned with district priorities (achievement, engagement, career readiness, etc.)

Participate in program reviews and implement improvements based on feedback and data

Maintain documentation for program evaluation and potential grant opportunities
