FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-exempt, 10 month

Role Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Instructional Assistant to support our classroom teachers in delivering high-quality education to students. The ideal candidate will be responsible for working with students one-on-one, facilitating small group instruction, assisting in the development and implementation of lesson plans, and supporting student supervision. This role plays a vital part in ensuring every student receives the individualized attention they need to succeed academically, while also contributing to a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.

What you’ll do

Basic Components of the Job Description for the Instructional Assistant position include (but are not limited to):

I. Student Support & Instruction

Provides focused lessons to individuals or small groups of students identified through the MTSS process

Tutors individuals and small groups of students in various subject areas.

Utilizes data to plan instruction and prepare for facilitating lessons with students

Tracks data and goals, as well as communicating to students and supervisors

Communicates student growth or areas of need to teacher, supervisor, and MTSS team, in writing and verbally to support further student growth

Assists in maintaining student records and files.

Supports with 1:1 or small group testing administration throughout the school year

Operates equipment such as copy machines, computers and audiovisual equipment.

Attend and participate in professional development

Work closely with the teacher and other instructional staff to address student needs and contribute to ongoing educational improvements.

Support communication with parents by providing updates on student progress or challenges, when needed.

II. Student Supervision

Provides occasional teacher coverage

Supervise students in all indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment.

Supervise students during breakfast, lunch and snack time.

Executes the Bright Star culture plan and training to support a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for students

Encourage children to interact positively with other children and people around them.

Maintain open lines of communication with the teacher and classroom team to ensure the individual needs of all children are met.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Any other duties as assigned.

Occasional exposure to extreme or varying temperatures.

Occasional exposure to outdoor elements such as sun, precipitation and wind or wet/humid surroundings.

Occasional/ exposure to loud noise, fumes, smoke, dust.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job.

Frequent walking.

Must be able to occasionally/frequently lift, carry push, and/or pull objects of not more than 20 pounds.
