High School Family & Consumer Science Teacher

Qualifications: The High School Family & Consumer Science Teacher must hold a valid Nebraska professional teaching certificate with a Minimum of Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university.

Length of Contract: Will follow the length of service as outlined in the Negotiated Agreement.

Immediate Supervisor: The High School Family & Consumer Science Teacher reports directly to the High School Principal.

General Job Description: In accordance with district policies and procedures, the High School Family & Consumer Science Teacher, plans for, teaches, and facilitates learning for all students; maintains academic progress, records and discipline; works collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to provide and implement classroom education to meet the needs of all students.

Specific Job Functions: The High School Family & Consumer Science Teacher:

Develop students' cognitive capacity and respect for learning.

Integrate leadership, technology, and communication into the curriculum.

Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.

Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

Ensures students take the necessary steps to meet all expectations for a safe learning environment

Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.

Implements useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures.

Selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials.

Encourages each student to think independently and to express original ideas.

Evaluates each student's progress in meeting the course standards for Family & Consumer Science skills..

Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.

Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.

Model non discriminatory practices in all activities.

Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.

Review Industry standards, safety, sanitation, and professionalism and culinary skills.

Other duties as assigned by the High School Principal or Administration.

Evaluation: All teaching staff are evaluated annually according to the provisions of the Appraisal of Teacher Service in the Springfield Platteview Community Schools Handbook. This function is performed by the building principal or designee and the summative evaluation is completed twice annually for probationary staff and once annually for tenured staff as a minimum. All due process prescribed in state statutes is afforded teachers of Springfield Platteview Community Schools.
