ESL Teacher (English as a Second Language)
Role Overview:The ESL Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality English language instruction to Multilingual Learners (MLs). You will create a supportive environment that fosters both linguistic proficiency and academic success across all subject areas.
- Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement lesson plans that develop English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Utilize WIDA or state-specific ELD standards to assess student progress and determine placement.
Collaborate with general education teachers to "scaffold" content-area instruction (math, science, social studies) for MLs.
Maintain regular communication with parents of ML students to encourage family engagement and cultural integration.
Advocate for the equitable treatment of language learners and ensure compliance with state and federal testing requirements.
- Qualifications: State certification in ESL or TESOL and a strong understanding of second-language acquisition theories.

Other Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Valid NJDOE ESL Certificate
- Valid New Jersey teaching certification
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience
- Strong classroom management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Familiarity with state education standards and curriculum
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
