Position Overview
The Hawbridge School is seeking a passionate, student-centered High School English Teacher to join our Upper School team. The ideal candidate is a collaborative educator who values authentic relationships, meaningful learning experiences, restorative practices, and interdisciplinary instruction. This teacher will work with students in grades 9-12 and help foster a learning environment that reflects Hawbridge's mission of academic excellence, creativity, community engagement, and place-based education.
At Hawbridge, English instruction extends beyond traditional literature study. We value discussion, inquiry, writing across genres, critical thinking, and opportunities for students to connect classroom learning to the world around them. Teachers are encouraged to design engaging, place-based experiences that inspire curiosity and student voice.

Primary Responsibilities:
-Teach high school English courses in grades 9-12, which may include Honors and Advanced
-Develop engaging lesson plans aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
-Create opportunities for discussion-based, place-based, and interdisciplinary learning
-Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices and diverse perspectives in course materials
-Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners and academic needs
-Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and guide instruction
-Participate actively in MTSS processes, student support meetings, and collaborative planning
-Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
-Contribute positively to school culture through advisory, clubs, community events, or extracurricular involvement
-Support and uphold restorative practices and Hawbridge community expectations
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, or related field
-Eligibility for or possession of a North Carolina teaching license
Preferred:
-Teaching experience at the high school level
-Experience with Honors and/or AP English courses
-Familiarity with restorative practices
-Experience with place-based, outdoor, or experiential learning
