High School World Language Teacher (Spanish plus Another Language, Anticipated Fall 2026)

Falmouth High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative full-time World Language teacher starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. This individual will teach five sections of student-centered classes designed to develop creative, analytical thinkers, researchers, and problem solvers who have a deep understanding of and appreciation for world languages. Other full-time faculty responsibilities include serving as an advisor, supporting independent student learning initiatives, and taking an active role in the school community in support of student learning and wellness. Falmouth teachers are expected to engage in ongoing professional learning, authentic collaboration with other faculty and staff, and regular goal-setting and reflection.

The World Language Department at Falmouth High School is a vibrant, high-achieving program that reflects both academic excellence and a deep commitment to global learning. With strong and sustained student enrollment across all levels, the department creates engaging learning experiences that foster communication, cultural understanding, and real-world application of language skills. Students consistently excel in Advanced Placement coursework, demonstrating high levels of achievement and readiness for college-level study, while many also earn the Seal of Biliteracy in recognition of their proficiency in multiple languages. Through passionate instruction, meaningful connections, and rigorous opportunities, the department empowers students to become confident communicators and globally minded citizens.

The ideal candidate:

  • is passionate about teaching and has genuine concern for students' academic growth and character development
  • has a strong educational background and teaching experience in 9th - 12th grade classrooms. Experiences teaching AP or college level courses is preferred.
  • is capable of teaching a broad spectrum of French and Spanish classes and excited by the prospect of interdisciplinary instruction in the future
  • has a demonstrated history of employing innovative pedagogies that are grounded in strong understanding adolescent development and learning theory
  • possesses the ability to differentiate instruction and help students master the subject matter despite different skill levels or ages
  • confidently integrates technology to advance education in the classroom
  • prioritizes positive collegial interactions and collaborative relationships with other teachers
  • possesses excellent communication and organizational skills
  • is culturally competent and supports diverse learners

Qualifications:

  • Must hold (or be eligible to hold) the appropriate valid Maine teacher certification for Spanish and French for grades 9-12.
  • Experience teaching Spanish and French is preferred.
  • The candidate must have an approved background check (run by the district).
