Reports to: JFK Principal and ELE Coordinator
Job Goal: The ESL Teacher provides instruction that assists students in reaching a level of English proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening as outlined in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and WIDA Standards.
Qualifications:1) Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Education (ESL License and SEI Endorsement)2) Prior successful classroom work experience as an ESL Teacher
Performance Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes and provides specialized instruction with evidence of knowledge of the Massachusetts English Language Development Standards and Can Do Descriptors (WIDA) and evidence of Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
- Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing appropriate scaffolds and accommodations to assist students in acquiring appropriate reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English.
- Administers language assessments (WIDA Screener).
- Maintains complete and accurate records of students' progress and evidence of growth and progress; writes quarterly progress reports and report cards.
- Clearly communicates to classroom teachers and parents/guardians regarding ongoing student progress and instructional needs.
- Schedules, organizes and administers state-mandated assessments (ACCESS) for EL students.
- Completes and maintains appropriate records regarding state-mandated forms and procedures for EL students including (i.e. FEL, Opt-Out, Waiver) and other records as mandated by the principal and ESL Coordinator.
- When applicable, assists classroom teachers in providing Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies into the classroom.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and expectations.
