Job Description

Part-Time High School Biology Teacher (.20 or .25FTE)

The Sharon Academy High School seeks a qualified, part-time biology teacher to teach an integrated, proficiency-based biology curriculum. The ideal candidate is collaborative, flexible, and student-centered.

Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

Implement proficiency-based instruction and assessment.

Update syllabi and Program of Studies descriptions annually.

Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 academic support during class and Phoenix Block.

Participate in professional development aligned with TSA's mission and individual goals.

Maintain compliance with all 504s, IEPs, and ESPs as documented in Blackbaud (BBd) and communicated by the Director of Academic Services; adjust instruction accordingly.

Participate in faculty evaluation processes and attend required IEP/504 meetings.

Establish consistent classroom routines aligned with TSA's Universal Expectations.

Maintain an engaging classroom environment, including regular display of student work.

Communicate with families regarding student progress and behavior via BBd and email; refer broader concerns to advisors and SST as appropriate.

Maintain timely and accurate records in BBd, including:

Daily attendance

Posting assignments when assigned

Marking work status within two days of due dates

Providing feedback and grades within two weeks

Completing report cards and comments by deadlines

Recording positive notes and infractions by end of day (effective March 2025)

Participate in surveys, manage or co-manage an interim committee, and evaluate exhibitions/capstones as assigned.

Faculty Engagement

Demonstrate flexibility outside scheduled teaching time to support meetings, school programming, and community events during school hours.

Work according to the school calendar, daily schedule, and contracted FTE.

Be available to students and families before and after school as needed.

Follow all policies in the Employee and Student Handbooks.

Serve as a mandatory reporter under Vermont law.

Collaboration & School Culture

Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and student support.

Attend staff, department, and in-service meetings proportional to contracted FTE.

Support TSA's mission and participate in required community events.

Respond to emails within 24 hours during the academic week.

Contribute to a clean, safe, and healthy school environment.

Teaching Qualifications: Teachers must hold a teaching license or be qualified, through education and/or experience, to teach the subject(s) for which they are hired to teach. Such qualifications must be approved by the Independent School Consultant at the Vermont Agency of Education.
