About Abbott Lawrence Academy

Abbott Lawrence Academy (ALA) offers students in Lawrence an opportunity previously unavailable to most: the chance to experience a rich and rewarding honors education in the tradition of the most prestigious independent schools in the country, free of charge. All of our students undergo a comprehensive admissions process consisting of an application and entrance exam.

With an inaugural cohort of grade 9 students in the fall of 2015, ALA promised a first-of-its-kind experience: the personalization of an accelerated academic program combined with access to the robust enrichment programs available on the Lawrence High School Campus. The result has been a school that challenges its students every day and ultimately prepares them for admission to the nation's most competitive colleges and universities.

In addition to having rigorous academic expectations, ALA students are required to participate in a club or sport every year. Additionally, each student is expected to complete at least 100 hours of community service over the course of his or her ALA experience. Our ultimate goal is to develop well-rounded students who are equipped with the skills and tools necessary to have successful post-secondary careers.
