POSITION TITLE:
Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Valid certification in special education
- Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Students and assigned personnel
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, and goals.
- Assesses student needs and develops an individual education program (IEP)/504 plan for students with disabilities; monitors and updates IEPs/504 plans as needed.
- Implements developmentally appropriate instructional strategies.
- Trains and supervises teacher assistants for students with disabilities.
- Cooperates with other professionals to coordinate services for students.
- Assists teachers with the implementation of appropriate classroom accommodations/modifications.
- Assists individual students and/or teachers with the use of assistive technology/adaptive devices.
- Assists with the coordination of the local school process for the identification and referral of students for special education services.
- Maintains/monitors records of students served by the instructional support team.
- Serves as a team member in determining student accommodations, referral, eligibility, placement, and individual program development.
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Complies with local, state, and federal regulations regarding Special Education records, reports, and services.
- Cooperates with teachers, counselors, therapists, and other school personnel in the provision of effective educational services to students.
- Maintains frequent and substantive communication with parents.
- Cooperates in all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the local school/system.
- Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws.
- Has knowledge of appropriate assessment and testing techniques of students with multiple disabilities. Develops service delivery models, which match state and local objectives in accordance with student needs.
- Provides services that may include technical/medical interventions, as well as developmentally appropriate learning activities.
- Consults with classroom teachers, school personnel, service providers, and medical personnel in planning, delivering, and evaluating interventions that positively impact the developmental needs of the student.
- Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication, organization, and collaborative skills.
- Has the ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying children.
- Participates in transition planning and preparation for adult life experiences.
- Implements appropriate environment and behavior management strategies.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
EVALUATION:
Nine-month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Tarrant city Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
This is an exempt position.
