Reports To: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Science Department Chair

Position Overview

In alignment with the mission of Dedham Public Schools to promote excellence in learning, self-discipline, and motivation, the High School Science Teacher fosters a dynamic, inquiry-driven classroom environment. This role emphasizes scientific thinking, collaboration, and culturally responsive practices to support diverse learners and cultivate an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach five sections of high school science aligned with the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) Frameworks
  • Design and implement engaging, phenomena-based lessons that integrate science practices and real-world applications
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of all students
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes equity and student voice
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and vertically aligned curriculum
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust teaching strategies as needed
  • Participate in department, building, and IEP meetings, as well as parent/guardian conferences
  • Maintain consistent, effective communication with families to support student success
  • Uphold laboratory safety standards and ensure proper use of equipment and materials
  • Support and implement district and school-based initiatives

Qualifications

Required:

  • Massachusetts DESE licensure in High School Science (Grades 9-12) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement
  • Knowledge of the 2016 MA STE Frameworks

Preferred:

  • Experience with phenomena-based or storyline-driven curriculum design
  • Familiarity with inclusive instructional practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
