Overview
The Charter School of Wilmington is seeking an exceptional Social Studies Teacher who is passionate about student-centered learning. The ideal candidate will design and facilitate learning experiences that cultivate civic literacy, historical thinking, and economic understanding while helping students think critically about historical trends, analyze evidence, construct arguments, and apply learning to real-world scenarios. The successful candidate will thrive in CSW's collaborative, high-performance academic culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver a rigorous, inquiry-based, standards-aligned curriculum with clear learning objectives.
- Foster a classroom culture of curiosity, respectful dialogue, and shared ownership of learning, where students are encouraged to question, investigate, and apply critical thinking skills to draw evidence-based conclusions
- Differentiate instruction to address diverse needs, including advanced learners and those requiring additional support
- Design performance-based assessments aligned to real-world applications
- Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner, including providing constructive feedback to students to assist them in understanding areas for growth.
- Exhibit strong self-awareness and reflection skills with a strong desire to continuously grow professionally and personall
- Collaborate effectively within the department to align instruction, share best practices, and support student success
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, or student activities
Critical Experience and Qualifications
- 3+ years of teaching experience, with prior high school Social Studies classroom teaching strongly preferred
- Effective classroom management skills to foster safe, inclusive, and productive learning environments.
- Understanding of high school social studies standards
- Demonstrated experience closing student opportunity gaps
- Strong knowledge of Social Studies content across one or more discipline areas (U.S. History, World History, Government, Economics, or Geography). Experience teaching World History and/or Civics and entry level Economics is a plus.
- Commitment and enthusiasm for working with a high-performing student population focused on implementing best practices related to community and cultural awareness
- Optimism, resilience, curiosity, and a strong passion for personal growth and student and teacher success
Education
Bachelor's Degree in secondary education with a concentration in secondary social studies or Bachelor's Degree in a Social Studies discipline such as History, Economics, Political Science or Geography with education certification. Master's Degree preferred.
Certification Requirements
Must hold or be eligible for Secondary Social Studies Teacher certification. Details can be found here .
Salary
Salary will be computed in accordance with the experience and training of the individual selected and in accordance with the salary schedules for employees of The Charter School of Wilmington. Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory for state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.

Required pre-employment clearances include a criminal background check, Delaware Child Protection Registry clearance, and a tuberculin (TB) test. The candidate must demonstrate in the interview process an understanding of how varied student backgrounds and experiences can impact learning, along with the ability to support an inclusive and equitable classroom environment.
