ESOL Teacher (Adult Education)

Job Description
The full time ESOL Teacher provides high-quality instruction within an adult education program, serving adult English language learners across multiple proficiency levels. This position includes afternoon instruction in Lackawanna for a beginner-intermediate ESOL literacy class four days a week with the potential to teach remotely, focusing on foundational English language skills and literacy development. In the evenings, the instructor will lead an in-person class focused on high intermediate-advanced ESOL GED preparation two days a week, integrating English language instruction with history, science, and math concepts aligned with GED standards.
Job Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging evening ESOL/GED preparation lessons for high intermediate-advanced adult English language learners.
Integrate English instruction with GED-related content, including history, science, and math.
Adapt instruction to meet diverse language proficiency levels and learning needs
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate attendance, assessments, and instructional records.
Foster an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging classroom environment.
Collaborate with program staff as needed to support student success.
Use assessment data and reflection to refine curriculum and change instructional practices and support grant/funding requirements.
Create a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment in a diverse classroom with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and enhance motivation.
Attend all staff meetings and common JERS responsibilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Reliable transportation required.
Master s or Bachelor s degree with two years experience.
Valid New York State Teacher certification preferred.
TABE Test and BEST Plus Administrator preferred.
Demonstrated experience teaching ESOL and GED preparation, both in person and remotely, preferably in adult education setting.
Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
Possess the ability to be flexible, creative, and willing to collaborate with other teachers.
