QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Valid state teaching license with Special Education endorsement.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful special education teaching experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, MTSS frameworks, and special education compliance.
- Strong understanding of instructional strategies, curriculum modifications, and behavior
intervention.
- Ability to coach and support adult staff/learners in a collaborative manner.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience at both elementary and secondary levels.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or leading professional development.
- Knowledge of district-specific special education systems, software, and processes.
- Endorsements in multiple disability categories.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Mentorship & Professional Support
- Coach and mentor special education teachers and paraprofessionals on best practices in
instruction, accommodations, and modifications.
- Provide training and guidance on special education compliance, including IEP development,
progress monitoring, evaluation procedures, and documentation.
- Support staff with curriculum planning, instructional design, behavior support strategies, and
effective delivery of specially designed instruction.
- Assist teachers with scheduling, workload distribution, case management planning, and daily
routines.
Collaboration & Program Support:
- Work collaboratively with school administrators, department heads, instructional coaches, and related service providers to improve service delivery and program implementation.
- Support Department Heads and Team Leaders in organizing and monitoring special education services at the elementary and secondary levels.
- Participate in district-level special education leadership meetings, committees, and problem-solving teams.
- Assist with coordination of professional development at the building and district levels.
Caseload, Instructional, and Meeting Responsibilities:
- Maintain caseload management duties when needed, including IEP development, family
communication, data collection, and compliance tasks.
- Provide direct instruction or classroom coverage when a licensed special education teacher is
required due to vacancies, leaves, or certification needs.
- Conduct student assessments and assist in eligibility determinations as appropriate.
- Periodically act as an Administrator Designee for IEP and Evaluation meetings, ensuring compliance, facilitation of team processes, and support for families and staff.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and district regulations governing special education.
- Review and support the completion of compliant and high-quality IEPs, progress reports, and evaluation reports.
- Assist with monitoring program documentation, data systems, and timelines.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement:
- Model effective instructional practices and professional conduct.
- Analyze student data to identify instructional needs and recommend strategies.
- Contribute to ongoing development and refinement of district procedures, guidance documents, and special education resources.
- Support initiatives that enhance inclusive practices and promote equitable outcomes for students with disabilities.
