Job Description
ESL Instructor (part-time, paid a daily rate)
The E.S.L Instructor will be responsible for delivering the contracted ESL classes and monitoring and assuring the progress of enrollees toward achieving the Program Performance targets and milestones.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and develop new resources and materials to enhance the teaching curricula.
- Provide Intake, Assessment and Orientation for each enrollee.
- Provide class instruction in ESL.
- Administer BEST PLUS tests at intake and regularly thereafter to monitor and document enrollee progress.
- Maintain Milestone performance files for each enrollee.
- Maintain enrollee attendance. Follow-up with enrollees as needed to ensure their continued participation. Maintain office hours.
- Design, implement and recommend individualized curriculum needs for students.
- Meet with students individually each cycle to review progress and need for additional help.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports on the enrollees and the classes.
- Prepare and submit Lesson Plans weekly to the Project Director.
- Identify program and /or student needs to the Project Director.
- Participate in required hours of DYCD Professional development and agency corporate compliance trainings.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree of Arts; with at least 2 years experience in adult education learning practices and standards and at least two (2) years of successful experience within the past five (5) years in providing adult literacy services to low-income adults; OR an ESOL teacher training certificate and at least three (3) years of successful experience within the past five (5) years in providing adult literacy services to low-income adults.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- BA or ESOL Teacher training Certificate with above experience.
- Must be Best Plus Certified
- Experience teaching ESL to adults in a community-based environment & 2 years of experience in providing adult literacy to low-income adults.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Computer literate, including experience with all Microsoft Office software packages, local area networks, and the Internet.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work evenings and Saturdays as required. The schedule is:
Tuesday 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Thursday 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Saturday 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed between 5-10 pounds.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs.
- Able to participate and willing to perform physical activities, i.e. Gym.
- Required to talk, hear, see, stand, walk, sit, use hands & arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, & crawl.
- Ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
- Fine hand manipulation (Keyboarding).
- Transportation time spent commuting between sites for meetings and trainings.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations as needed.
