TITLE: Classroom Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Ohio certification/licensure
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: Committed to teaching students the subject matter and skills necessary for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. Plan for and assess the learning experience of the students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to organize student instruction and to manage the classroom in order for learning to occur.
  • Maintain control at all times where the teacher is in charge of supervision.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with parents through various mediums.
  • Responsible for writing clear and appropriate lesson plans, based on academic standards, which indicate the direction for instruction and implementation of the course of study
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter.
  • Regularly assess student's progress and provide additional instruction as necessary.
  • Responsible for providing clear, complete, and accurate explanations suitable to the level of learners.
  • Present subject matter in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
  • Answer student questions clearly and completely.
  • Give positive reinforcement for acceptable academic and social behavior.
  • Implement behavior intervention strategies as needed in order to promote positive learning patterns.
  • Work with other programs such as Special Needs, English Language Learning, Literacy, After School Programs, etc. in order to benefit the instruction of students in the classroom.
  • Responsible for working collaboratively with grade level or teaching teams.
  • Responsible to maintain accurate records as required by district.
  • Responsible for appropriate dress.
  • Arrive at school promptly and stay until regularly scheduled times have been met.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
  • Excellent observation and communication skills
  • Supervision of students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, and hallways, or on field trips
  • Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of internal and external stakeholders.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of contract.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
