Main Purpose of Job
To develop a comprehensive Drama program, in which students are introduced to individualized, developmentally appropriate instructional programs that allow them to gain confidence and engage in activities that promote creative and collaborative exploration. To provide a language enriched environment through the use of American Sign Language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf students.\n
POSITION DUTIES
To\nteach drama to Kindergarten through Middle School students using grade-level\nMaryland College and Career Ready Standards and American Sign Language\nStandards in addition to the ASL-English Bilingual Framework; assess and\ninstruct students using their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); plan,\nprepare, and deliver lesson plans that facilitate active learning; maintain a\nclassroom conducive to learning; design and make materials for lessons; manage\nstudent behavior and collect data; coordinate with teachers and other\nprofessionals to provide literacy/drama activities; provide support to\nclassroom staff to insure appropriate integration of drama related skills to\nlanguage arts instruction; assist individual students with receptive and\nexpressive skills, as needed; assist with class, department and school wide\nproductions and presentations; follow school policies and procedures outlined\nin the MSD Handbook; maintain professional training and certification; and\nassume other responsibilities as designated by the Middle School Principal or\nthe Chief Educational Programs Officer.\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree\nrequired.\n\n\nCandidates must be eligible to apply for or be\nwilling to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education\nwithin a prescribed amount of time.Fluency in American Sign Language and\nwritten English required. Knowledge of the Deaf culture, Deaf Education,\nstudents with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on\ndifferent levels and with varying educational and language acquisition\nbackgrounds is required.\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's\ndegree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students. Acting, directing,\nor drama teaching experience desired.\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background\ninvestigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1,\nSections 5-560-568)\n\n\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of\nrecommendation with their application.\n

BENEFITS
\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\n\n
