SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (Asperger's Syndrome) JOB SUMMARY: Milestones is expanding and is seeking a teacher for our day school program which services students with Asperger's Syndrome and Learning Disabilities. Our day school is 12-months / year-round and licensed by DESE. Licensed Special Education Teacher (to start August 23, 2010) for math, grades 7th-9th. We have a unique program that focuses on teaching students skills they are missing (rather then exclusively focusing on behavior). Our school is highly supported by a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, and two Directors. Each classroom has two head teachers and two assistants with up to 9 students. We have a total of only 32 students (with our expansion we will have 45 students). Our population consists primarily of students with Asperger's Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Anxiety Disorders. Teachers are responsible for: (1) teaching Massachusetts Frameworks curriculum to students teachers are responsible for modifying curriculum and teaching creative lessons involving multiple modalities and providing support during non-academic times, (2) Writing and case management of 4-5 students on IEPs, (3) Weekly phone conferences with parents for the 4-5 students they case manage, (4) supervising the classroom assistants, (5) making learning fun! We strongly believe in professional development and have weekly supervision as well as paid conference attendance. This position is Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm year round.
