As a teacher you will provide educational experiences to all students who are involved in the therapeutic portion of the camping program through group and individualized instruction, and to ensure that students identified as exceptional students have educational involvement in accordance with their IEP's. Provide consultation to the transitional classroom teacher, as needed. Consult with counselor/teachers to ensure that formal educational focus is directed toward ensuring academic benefits of core program activities. Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Education preferred. Teaching certification appropriate to State of Florida requirements. Two years successful teaching experience preferred. Must have desire to work with at risk youth. Serve as the primary teacher/educational case manager for a group of up to 12 students (caseload). Typically the caseload will consist of students from a Denver Children?s Home dorm or an outpatient program (i.e. Day Treatment or School Only). ? Teach one or two secondary-level subjects and/or Affective Education. Teachers will deliver curriculum in content areas in which they are qualified, and/or in subjects that are needed by the Academy. ? Support and encourage positive behaviors and contain negative behaviors in the classroom through the use of behavior management techniques, school-wide contingency management program and individual Behavior Support Plans ? Support the implementation of the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) model ? Assess students? present levels of academic functioning using a variety of formal and informal tools including the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement ?Revised, the WJ Mini Battery and the Brigance Test of Basic Skills (others may apply) ? Working with the Special Education Coordinator, conduct special education staffings including Initial staffing, Annual reviews and Triennial reviews ? Develop and implement individual learning plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEP) goals and objectives based on assessment of present levels of performance ? Evaluate progress towards established educational and behavioral goals at monthly and quarterly treatment staffings and for report cards ? Participation in weekly Treatment Team meetings or School Only Team meetings, which includes weekly educational updates and overall performance of clients in the program ? Participation in the daily (morning) and weekly Teacher Meetings ? Participation in Monthly daytime team meeting (Fourth Wednesday) ? Assist in the management of the milieu throughout the day ? Transportation of students to and from the program ? Facilitate ongoing communication with client?s community (i.e. parent/guardian, caseworker, therapist, GAL, probation officer, dorm staff, etc.) ?
